Localisation means adapting a text to the socio-economic and cultural situation of the country where the user/client lives. It isn’t just a case of using the right language and specific terminology. It involves more!
Take, for example, an accounting program which indicates decimal values using a decimal point, typical of English-speaking nations. Localisation for the Italian market would require the use of a comma in place of the decimal point to correctly express the original value.
Whether it’s a piece of software, a website or multimedia product, the aim is: to allow foreign users to enjoy the benefits/advantages of correct use of the product with the same level of effectiveness as is guaranteed in the original language.
